It is considered a mineral with magical properties, but its name, despite obvious associations, did not come from this at all. Charoite was first found on the Czara River and borrowed its name from it.

The most common is the lilac-purple variety. These colors fall into different shades, depending on the intensity of the light. There are also golden or brown varieties, but this is rare. It is characterized by numerous, irregular spots.
It contains manganese, and it was this element that was initially suspected of being the factor that gave it its color. However, it turned out that there is not enough of it to color the stone. Therefore, it is not known what is responsible for the color of the charoite. It was assumed that the more purple the color, the greater the value of a given specimen.
